After the Mumbai Indians won IPL 2020 held in a UAE bubble, IPL 2021 was tentatively scheduled to be held between 11 April 2021 and 6 June 2021. However, since England’s tour of India only concludes on March 28th, 2021, the first match of IPL 2021 between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals is only expected to take place sometime in the middle of April. The much awaited and lucrative IPL 2021 auction is scheduled to be held on february 11th, 2021. The BCCI has told all franchises to share the retained and released players list before the auction. How many matches will be played in IPL 2021?

As it has been the case in previous editions of the IPL, there will be a total of 60 matches played during IPL 2021.

Will there be two new teams in IPL 2021?

IPL Governing Council (IGC) had initially planned to add two new teams for IPL 2021. However, they decided to postpone that for IPL 2022. If two new teams are added, the number of matches will also increase from 60. The overseas player quota is also expected to be bumped up from 4 to 5 overseas players per team.

When is the IPL 2021 Auction?

The COVID-19 pandemic forced IPL 2020 to be rescheduled. It started in a bubble on September 18th and ended on November 10th, with Mumbai Indians emerging victorious. IPL 2021 is most likely to be held at the usual time of the year. India is also going to host the T20I World Cup in October 2021, so IPL 2021 can’t really be pushed too far down the year. The IPL Auction is scheduled to be held on February 11th.

Will IPL 2021 be held in India?

COVID-19 forced the BCCI and the IGC to organize IPL 2020 in a safety bubble in UAE. However, IPL 2021, will be held in India only. However, in case there is a spike in COVID cases in India during IPL 2021, the tournament can be shifted to UAE once again.
